AFGE to Bring International Human Rights Day Program to District of Columbia Public Schools

(WASHINGTON)— The American Federation of Government Employees is bringing International Human Rights Day to DC public schools this year. AFGE has sponsored performances by actress and union member Pam Parker at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Alice B. Deal Junior High school on Wednesday, December 7.
“AFGE is fulfilling its responsibility to the community by helping to educate the next generation about the importance of human rights,” says John Gage, AFGE national president.
The school programs are part of a series of events sponsored in the DC area in conjunction with International Human Rights Day. This year, community leaders and representatives of human rights, labor, religious and anti-poverty organizations will come together to observe International Human Rights Day on December 8. The day commemorates the anniversary of the ratification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948. The declaration recognizes the inherent dignity, equality and inalienable rights of all people as the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
