(WASHINGTON)—The nation’s largest federal employee union, the American Federation of Government Employees, today applauded President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on the creation of a White House Middle Class Working Families Task Force.
“Less than two weeks into his first term, President Obama is showing his commitment to the middle class and working families by acknowledging the need for a stronger labor movement,” said AFGE National President John Gage, who was in attendance for the signing of the executive orders.
“It has been a long time since organized labor has been recognized as critical to the well-being and growth of the middle class. AFGE looks forward to working with members of the Task Force to ensure that the middle class is front and center in the president’s plan to heal the economy,” Gage added. “We appreciate the dedication of this administration to reverse the anti-labor and anti-worker policies that have been in place the last eight years.
“AFGE members, and all federal employees, stand ready to support the administration and its new task force in reinvesting in America,” Gage concluded.
