WASHINGTON – American Federation of Government Employees National Secretary-Treasurer Everett Kelley today issued the following statement:
“AFGE offers our sincere congratulations to Rep. Carolyn Maloney on her historic election as the first woman to chair the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Congressional oversight of the White House and government operations has never been more important, and we look forward to working with Chairwoman Maloney as she leads the committee at a critical point for public-sector workers and the non-political civil service. Federal workers are facing attacks on their collective bargaining rights and having their voice diminished in the workplace. AFGE knows that Rep. Maloney will continue to fight to protect the rights of federal and D.C. government workers and carry on the legacy established by the late Elijah Cummings.
“Congresswoman Maloney is a champion of all public servants, especially federal and D.C. government workers, as recently noted by her leadership in sponsoring legislation to provide all federal employees with 12 weeks of paid parental leave. AFGE looks forward to working with Chairwoman Maloney to ensure that government workers are provided with the resources, tools, and support they need to succeed.”
