(Washington)—The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) congratulates Linda Springer on her appointment as the new head of the Office of Personnel Management, union President John Gage said today. “As the largest federal employee union, we work very closely with OPM, and look forward to establishing a solid relationship with Springer,” he added.
“While our relationship with former OPM director Kay Cole James sometimes was contentious, it always was based on respect for one another,” Gage said. “That being the case, we were very pleased that in her confirmation hearing, Springer said that open communications with unions was among her priorities and that her first act would be to call AFGE.”
“Despite our concerns over opposing ideas between AFGE and OPM—specifically the National Security Personnel System—we look at this as an opportunity for renewed cooperation,” he added.
