(WASHINGTON) - The American Federation of Government Employees endorsed Democrat Tim Kaine for governor of Virginia. AFGE National President John Gage noted that the governor’s race will determine the outcome of issues important to Virginians like traffic, education, health care and BRAC. “These issues will impact all Virginians,” said Gage.
“On behalf of the tens of thousands of Virginians AFGE represents, AFGE proudly endorses Tim Kaine for governor of Virginia,” said Gage. “Tim Kaine has been a friend of Virginia families throughout his career in public service and will continue to be that friend when he leads Virginia. Tim Kaine understands the limits of government and appreciates the contributions that a dedicated public workforce makes to the commonwealth. Tim Kaine will continue sound, fiscally responsible policies to ensure that the Commonwealth of Virginia stays within its means. Tim Kaine will promote sensible economic growth across Virginia while finding innovative ways to tackle the increasingly frustrating problem of traffic.”
The announcement was made at the annual cookout of AFGE Local 3615, which was held in Mason District Park in Annandale. Local 3615 represents hundreds of Virginians who work for the Social Security Administration in northern Virginia.
Gage noted that while some pundits may try to dismiss the endorsement, federal employees rely upon the same roads, send their children to the same schools, and get frustrated by the same traffic headaches as their fellow Virginians.
