AFGE Endorses North Carolina’s Richard Ojeda for Election to Congress

AFGE says Ojeda is a dedicated public servant and proven leader
WASHINGTON –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Richard Ojeda for election to the U.S. House representing North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District in the 2026 elections. The general election is Nov. 3.
A dedicated public servant and proven leader, Ojeda has consistently stood up for working families and communities. A U.S. Army veteran and former state senator, he has built a reputation as a tireless advocate for workers’ rights, economic fairness, and expanding opportunity.
Throughout his career, Ojeda has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting organized labor, protecting workers, and ensuring that government works for those who serve and strengthen our communities every day.
“Richard Ojeda brings integrity, passion, and a strong record of service to this race,” District 4 National Vice President Christine Surrette said. “He understands the importance of investing in workers and communities, and we are confident he will be a strong voice for working families in North Carolina.”

Nearly 85,000 federal employees live in North Carolina, and about 10,000 live in the 9th Congressional District – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents nearly 48,000 federal employees in District 4, which includes Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
