WASHINGTON – Today, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest federal employee union, is outraged over the Supreme Court decision in Louisiana v. Callais.
AFGE National President Everett Kelley issued the following statement:
“Yesterday's Supreme Court decision in Louisiana v. Callais is a direct attack on the Voting Rights Act and the promise of equal representation. In gutting protections of our voting rights, the Court has made it harder for working people to challenge unfair districting and easier for politicians to manipulate the electoral process for their own advantage.
“When regular, working Americans lose protections of their voting rights, it makes it harder for citizens to hold politicians accountable and easier for corruption to flourish in government. The American people deserve better, and AFGE will continue to stand with our allies in the labor and civil rights communities to fight for it.”
