AFGE President Says Trump’s Move to Politicize Civil Service Will ‘Corrupt the Federal Government’
Tens of thousands of career federal workers will have their jobs politicized under latest action
WASHINGTON – American Federation of Government Employees National President Everett Kelley today issued the following statement:
“President Trump’s action to politicize the work of tens of thousands of career federal employees will erode the government’s merit-based hiring system and undermine the professional civil service that Americans rely on.
“This is another in a series of deliberate moves by this administration to corrupt the federal government and replace qualified public servants with political cronies. That’s why AFGE joined with our partner union AFSCME in suing the administration in January over its efforts to politicize the civil service.
“Politicizing the career civil service is a threat to our democracy and to the integrity of all the programs and services Americans rely on.”
