WHERE: Cannon House Office Building
Room 334
WHEN: Tuesday, April 3, 2001
2:00 p.m.
WHY: The state of veterans’ health is in shock from the trauma of years of flat-line budgets, continued staffing cuts and recent restructuring.
Since FY 1994, the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) has cut 52 percent of inpatient beds. The DVA nursing staff, alone, has been cut some 10 percent. AFGE National President Harnage will give testimony recommending solutions to the myriad problems within the DVA health care system.
AFGE is the largest union for government employees, representing 600,000 federal workers in the United States and overseas, as well as employees of the District of Columbia. AFGE represents some 135,000 DVA employees nationwide. To learn more about AFGE, go to www.afge.org.
