(Washington, DC)—The attorneys working for the Office of Corporation Counsel (OCC) in the District of Columbia (DC) chose the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) – the largest union representing DC employees who report to the Mayor – as their union.
In yesterday’s election, AFGE won by a vote of 99 to 4 in an unusually large turnout.
"AFGE continues to demonstrate its commitment to recruiting more professionals and offering the strength of our union family to all,” said National President Bobby L. Harnage. “The evidence is in and DC lawyers have delivered the verdict.”
OCC attorneys represent the city in court on civil and criminal matters. One major issue in this campaign was cost of living increases and pay equity with federal sector attorneys.
The American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, is the largest union for government employees, representing 600,000 federal workers in the United States and overseas, as well as employees of the District of Columbia. To learn more about AFGE, visit www.afge.org.
