Hatch Act Violations Under Trump Administration Show Clear Double Standard
Union calls for Congressional oversight into failure to hold Kellyanne Conway, others accountable for violating law
WASHINGTON – American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following statement in response to the Office of Special Counsel’s call for the removal of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway for violating the Hatch Act:
“At the same time President Trump’s Office of Special Counsel is taking steps to limit federal employees’ free speech, the administration is allowing political appointees like Kellyanne Conway to flagrantly violate the same law without any repercussions. This clear double standard is a disservice not only to federal employees but to our American principles of fairness and equality.
“Since President Trump seems determined to look the other way, Congress must step in and provide the oversight needed to ensure his appointees are held accountable for violating the law.”
