Largest Federal Employee Union Endorses 5 Connecticut Incumbents for Reelection to Congress

AFGE says these candidates always stand with federal workers
BRIDGETON, N.J. –The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of five incumbent members of Congress for reelection to the U.S. House representing Connecticut in the 2026 elections. The statewide primary is Aug. 11, and the general election is Nov. 3.
The endorsed candidates are Reps. John Larson (CT-1), Joe Courtney (CT-2), Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Jim Himes (CT-4), and Jahana Hayes (CT-5).
All five lawmakers have been supportive of key AFGE priorities and often are the cosponsors of key bills. Most recently, they all cosponsored the Protect America’s Workforce Act (HR 2550), which would rescind President Trump’s March 2025 executive order banning collective bargaining for most of the federal workforce.
“These five members of Congress from Connecticut are exceptionally pro-labor, pro-AFGE, and pro-federal employee,” AFGE District 2 National Vice President David Gonzalez said. “They’ve been accessible and responsive to our members here in Connecticut, and as the Trump administration works to strip federal employees of their pay, their jobs, and their union rights, these lawmakers have stood with the men and women who serve their communities every day.”
About 22,000 federal employees live in Connecticut – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents more than 51,000 federal employees in District 2, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
