Largest Federal Employee Union Endorses Four U.S. House Candidates in Texas Ahead of November Election

AFGE says endorsed candidates will support federal employees and all working families
KILLEEN, Texas — The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of four candidates for election to the U.S. House representing Texas in the 2026 elections. Two are incumbents and two are newcomers. The general election is Nov. 3.
AFGE District 10 National Vice President Cheryl Eliano said the endorsed candidates support AFGE’s key priorities and will fight for working families.
The endorsed candidates are:
Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (CD-34)
“Vicente Gonzalez has shown federal workers exactly where he stands. He signed the discharge petition and voted for the Protect America’s Workforce Act to restore collective bargaining rights for over a million federal employees. He opposed attempts in Congress to block the restoration of union rights for Department of Defense workers, and he stood up when the administration went after the National Labor Relations Board. AFGE is proud to endorse a member of Congress who backs up his words with votes,” Eliano said.
Rep. Henry Cuellar (CD-28)
“Henry Cuellar put his name on the discharge petition that forced the Protect America’s Workforce Act to a vote, then voted yes to restore collective bargaining for federal employees across the country. That is what it looks like when a member of Congress actually shows up for the people who keep this government running. AFGE is proud to stand beside him,” Eliano said.
Johnny Garcia (CD-35)
“Johnny Garcia spent his career in public service, spending nearly two decades as sheriff’s deputy protecting his community. He knows what it means to punch a clock for public good, and he understands what working families in Bexar County are up against. AFGE is proud to endorse a candidate who has lived the working-class experience he is fighting for,” Eliano said.
Bobby Pulido (CD-15)
“Bobby Pulido is the son of a migrant farm worker who built a career the hard way, and he has not forgotten where he came from. He is running to make sure working families in the Rio Grande Valley have a voice in Washington instead of being an afterthought. AFGE is proud to stand with Bobby Pulido,” Eliano said.
AFGE previously endorsed Texas State Rep. James Talarico for election to the U.S. Senate in November.
About 250,000 federal employees live in Texas – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents more than 136,000 federal employees in District 10, which includes Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Panama, and Texas.
