Largest Federal Employee Union Endorses Kansas’ Lauren Reinhold for Election to Congress

AFGE says Reinhold is a former federal employee who will fight for workers’ rights
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Lauren Reinhold for election to Congress representing Kansas’ 1st Congressional District in the 2026 election. Reinhold won the district primary in August. The general election is Nov. 3.
Reinhold, a former federal employee who experienced firsthand the impact of DOGE-driven workforce reductions, understands the importance of protecting government workers and the benefits they’ve earned. She is committed to standing with the men and women who serve the American public every day.
“Lauren Reinhold doesn’t have to be told what federal employees have been through – she lived it. She knows what it means when decisions made in Washington affect the careers, families, and livelihoods of the people who serve our country every day,” AFGE District 9 National Vice President Shane Reedy said. “Federal employees across Kansas deserve a member of Congress who understands their work, respects their rights, and will fight to protect the services they provide to the American people. AFGE is proud to stand with Lauren because we know she will stand with federal workers.”
More than 21,800 federal employees live in Kansas — caring for veterans, supporting the military, and making sure Social Security recipients get their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents more than 56,000 federal employees in District 9, which includes Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
