Largest Federal Employee Union Endorses Louisiana’s Troy Carter for Reelection to Congress

AFGE says Rep. Carter will stand up and show up for federal workers
KILLEEN, Texas –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Rep. Troy Carter for reelection to the U.S. House representing Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District in the 2026 elections. The general election is Nov. 3.
Born in New Orleans, Carter was elected to Congress in a special election in April 2021 after previously serving in the Louisiana House of Representatives, the Louisiana State Senate, and on the New Orleans City Council.
When President Trump signed an executive order in March 2025 stripping the collective bargaining rights from nearly 1 million federal workers, Rep. Carter released a public statement calling it a blatant and dangerous assault on working people and an ideological crusade to weaken the voices of workers and chip away at what generations of labor leaders and public servants had built.
“Troy Carter has a 100% lifetime voting record from AFGE for standing with working people. He voted for the Protect America’s Workforce Act to restore collective bargaining rights for over a million federal employees, and he opposed attempts in Congress to leave Defense Department workers behind in restoring their protections. Louisiana’s federal workforce knows who shows up for them, and that’s why AFGE is proud to endorse Rep. Troy Carter for reelection,” AFGE District 10 National Vice President Cheryl Eliano said.
Nearly 35,000 federal employees live in Louisiana – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents more than 136,000 federal employees in District 10, which includes Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Panama, and Texas.
