Largest Federal Employee Union Endorses Vermont Rep. Becca Balint for Reelection to Congress

AFGE says Balint has fought to restore federal workers’ collective bargaining rights and stood with Vermont’s federal workforce
BRIDGETON, N.J. — The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Becca Balint for reelection to Congress representing Vermont’s at-large statewide district in the 2026 elections. The statewide primary is Tuesday, Aug. 11, and the general election is Nov. 3.
Balint has been a strong supporter of AFGE’s top priorities in the 119th Congress and a frequent cosponsor of legislation protecting the federal workforce. She cosponsored the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550), which would rescind President Trump’s March 2025 executive order banning collective bargaining for most of the federal workforce. Balint has also stood up for Vermont’s federal employees as the Trump administration pushed mass layoffs and reductions-in-force across the government.
“Becca Balint has been in Vermont federal workers’ corner since she got to Congress,” AFGE District 2 National Vice President David Gonzalez said. “She helped pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act to undo the Trump administration’s attack on collective bargaining, and she has fought just as hard against the layoffs and buyouts this administration has used to gut the civil service. Vermont’s federal employees know she has their back, and AFGE is proud to stand with her.”
More than 5,500 federal employees live in Vermont -- caring for veterans, supporting the military, and ensuring Social Security recipients receive their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents nearly 51,500 federal employees in District 2, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
