‘Women’s rights are union rights,’ AFGE president says
WASHINGTON – American Federation of Government Employees National President Everett Kelley issued the following statement in response to the leaked draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade:
“Women’s rights are union rights – full stop.
“The darkest moments in American history have been characterized by the rollback of liberties we have come to take for granted. Our union’s mission is to defend the rights and safety of our members and their families, and we cannot in good conscience remain silent when their fundamental freedoms are threatened.
“It is my sincere hope that a majority of Supreme Court justices will see the folly of this draft decision, listen to the better angels of our history, and uphold the Court’s own precedent and the recognition of these fundamental rights.”
