WASHINGTON – American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following statement:
“The two-year budget deal approved by Congress will allow federal employees to continue providing valuable services to the American public without the threat of budget cuts looming over their heads.
“The automatic budget cuts required under sequestration would have decimated our domestic agencies and jeopardized our military readiness. It would have been open season on virtually all of the programs and services the American people rely on, from protecting our skies and borders to ensuring the safety of our food, water and air.
“Federal employees are relieved that they will no longer be facing the threat of another government shutdown or unpaid furloughs, on top of the $159 billion in cuts they have already endured under the guise of fiscal restraint.
“AFGE looks forward to working with lawmakers from both parties to end sequestration permanently and stop this destructive cycle of manufactured budget crises.”
