WASHINGTON – On Sunday, two Border Patrol officers were attacked on duty near Big Bend Sector of Texas. Officer Rogelio Martinez, 36, of El Paso lost his life in the attack and his partner has been hospitalized. The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents Border Patrol agents and officers issued the following statement in response to the tragedy:

“We mourn the loss of Officer Martinez and are offering our sincerest thoughts and prayers to his family, and with the family of his partner who was critically injured in this awful incident,” said AFGE National President J. David Cox Sr.

“We are here for the families and colleagues of these brave men who were maliciously attacked Sunday and will support them however we can. It’s a sad day when we lose one of our union brothers in such a senseless act of violence and we pray for all men and women in uniform risking their lives every day for our freedoms.”
