AFGE is known for our relentlessness in the pursuit of justice, and what happened this week shows our will to provide workplace protections for federal employees even though it might take years.
After nearly four years of litigation and fierce opposition from the agency, we finally received from the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) the certification for our unit of 110 police officers at the Pentagon’s Raven Rock Mountain Complex in Pennsylvania.
Following the filing of the election petition in 2011, these employees have endured a hearing, two representation elections, a loss of quorum at the FLRA, and three agency appeals in what has become one of the longest-delayed certification cases in FLRA history.
“It’s great to see this case finally come to a close, and that these employees will finally get to exercise the rights they’ve waited so long to receive,” said AFGE Deputy General Counsel Cathie McQuiston.
