AFGE to Hold DoD Conference Call on Cuts to Travel Per Diem

On December 4th at 11 a.m. EST, the AFGE Legislative and Political Action Department will hold a conference call to discuss the recent changes to the Joint Travel Registry (JTR) that reduce per diem pay for long-term TDY travel. Call participants will have an opportunity to discuss their concerns and ask questions about the JTR changes.
DoD Conference Call on Cuts to Federal Per Diem Pay

Effective November 1, 2014, the Department of Defense (DoD) implemented changes to JTR to reduce the per diem allowance to federal employees for legitimate lodging, meals, and incidental expenses for official travel. Specifically, the proposal reduces long-term temporary duty (TDY) per diem pay to 75% of the current per diem rate for 30 to 180 days of travel, and cut the per diem allowance for travel more than 180 days by 45%.
DoD also changed the rules for reimbursing costs associated with travel, resulting in federal employees having to personally pay for official travel expenses. AFGE, along with 13 labor organizations, opposes these changes and is petitioning Congress to block further implementation of cuts to TDY per diem and incidental expenses through a defund provision in an upcoming funding measure.
Following the conference call, AFGE legislative staff will participate in a meeting with DoD leadership and Members of Congress to discuss the cuts to long-term TDY per diem pay. The discussion during the conference call will better inform AFGE advocacy efforts during the meeting with DoD leadership.
