Diana Hicks, District 9 National Vice President

Shane Reedy is the District 9 National Vice President for the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), representing federal employees and retirees across Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. He was elected to the position in May 2026.
Raised in Topeka, Kan., Reedy’s mother and grandfather (a corrections officer and electrician, respectively) instilled in him a deep appreciation for hard work, service to others, and strength in unionism.
Those values led him to become an AFGE member on his first day of employment at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Topeka in April 2012, where he quickly became involved in union advocacy at AFGE Local 906. For more than a decade, Reedy represented employees in grievances, arbitrations, and negotiations, while serving in various leadership positions including legislative political coordinator, secretary-treasurer, vice president, and ultimately local president.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from the University of Oklahoma in May 2021, Reedy was one of the first selected to help train union representatives and leaders on the newly ratified master labor agreement covering 310,000 Veterans Affairs employees represented by AFGE in 2023. That same year, Reedy became a national representative for AFGE District 9, where he supported local leaders in many agencies and helped them to navigate complex representational, legislative, and political challenges.
As NVP, Reedy has pledged to develop current and future leaders, improve transparency by sharing knowledge and experience, and ensure all locals have a powerful voice for their employees and retirees. His philosophy is straightforward – strong locals build a strong district, strong districts build a strong union, and strong unions help build a stronger future for working people.
Reedy lives in Topeka with his wife, Dakota, with their two children.
