AFGE hosted its annual Legislative and Grassroots Mobilization Conference February 8-11, 2015.
The turnout is said to be the largest since the inception. Without a doubt, this was one of the best turnouts by District 10 in a very long time. The support that was shown at our District meeting and breakfast by the several locals that were able to attend is a testament to the willingness on everyone’s part to move our District forward.
Another highlight of the conference was the nearly 500 AFGE members who marched to Capitol Hill to demand an end to attacks on the federal workforce and job-and-morale-killing sequestration. To remind Congress that our Government Works for America, we held signs that read, “Food Inspectors Keep Our Food Safe,” “VA Doctors and Nurses Serve Our Veterans,” “TSOs Keep Us Safe,” “BPAs Keep Our Borders Safe,” “DoD Employees Protect the Troops,” and “SSA Workers Support Our Seniors.”
There were also many allies of AFGE present for this event including AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, Rep. Chris Van Hollan of Maryland, Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, AFSCME President Lee Saunders, National Association of Letter Carriers President Fred Rolando, American Postal Workers Union President Mark Dimondstein, and Public Services International General Secretary Rosa Pavanelli.
AFGE members were fired up and we know our voices were heard loud and clear!
