INDIANAPOLIS –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsements of Frank Mrvan and André Carson from Indiana for reelection to Congress in the midterm elections. The statewide primary is May 5, and the general election is Nov. 3.
Rep. Mrvan represents Indiana’s First Congressional District, while Rep. Carson represents the state’s Seventh Congressional District.
“André Carson and Frank Mrvan are strong supporters of federal employees and all working people, and both have spent their time in Congress advocating for workers’ rights. Federal workers have no better friends in Congress than Reps. Carson and Mrvan, and AFGE is proud to endorse both for reelection,” AFGE District 6 National Vice President Arnold Scott said.
Frank Mrvan, First Congressional District
Frank Mrvan understands the importance of well-paying jobs and a growing economy that works for everyone. Prior to being elected to Congress in November 2020, Mrvan served as the trustee for North Township, Indiana.
Mrvan currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee and is a member of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science. In this role, he focuses on providing adequate and appropriate funds, oversight, and direction for the agencies under the subcommittee’s jurisdiction, including the International Trade Commission, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Justice.
Mrvan also serves as vice chair of the bipartisan Congressional Steel Caucus, where he advocates for the steel and manufacturing industries of Northwest Indiana.
Frank Mrvan has a 100% voting record with AFGE and has been a vocal supporter of federal employees and union rights, including cosponsoring the Protecting the Right to Organize Act. He previously served on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, where he was a strong advocate for federal workers at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
André Carson, Seventh Congressional District
Since first being elected to Congress in 2008, André Carson has focused on growing the economy, strengthening national security, and building a stronger middle class.
As a senior member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Carson led the first open hearing on Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon in 50 years. He also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee – where he fights for improvements in public transit, Amtrak funding, and investments in our roads — as well as the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
Born in Indianapolis, Carson served on the Indianapolis City-County Council and worked full-time in law enforcement at the state level before being elected to Congress.
AFGE local leaders in Indiana have strong open communication with Rep. Carson and his staff, so our members know their voices are heard and our issues will be addressed.
More than 48,300 federal employees live in Indiana – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents nearly 47,000 federal employees in District 6, which includes Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.
