Members of Congress are currently spending time back home during this Spring recess period which started on March 30 and concludes April 10, and now is the time to get activated in your community. This is when your voice matters most. This on-demand training (a video you can view at your own time and pace) walks you through how to use this recess window strategically by scheduling in-district meetings, planning local advocacy actions, and building relationships with elected officials.
Learn how to request and prepare for meetings with your member of Congress and senators, how to structure the conversation in the room, and how to follow up to keep the relationship going. The module also breaks down how to find out where your elected officials stand on key legislation, so that you can effectively tailor a message representative of AFGE’s priorities and make a clear ask.
Whether you’re new to legislative advocacy or have experience, this module offers simple tools, clear steps, and practical strategies you can use right away.
