AFGE is proud to be a Rainbow Sponsor of the 40th Celebration of Pride in the Nation’s Capital this weekend!
As the nation's largest labor union representing federal and D.C. government workers, AFGE uplifts, affirms and protects the workplace rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
As part of AFGE's sponsorship, AFGE has been given premier placement in this year's annual parade and festival. About 80 AFGE activists and members will be participating in the parade this Saturday, June 13, at 4:30 p.m., a great turn out for our first run in the DC Capital Pride Parade! We have members from the DC, Maryland and Virginia area, as well as Kentucky, Alabama, Oregon, Washington, Texas, and Ohio.
In addition to the members, we also have the Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO, Tefere Gebre, and past Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO, Arlene Holt Baker, walking with us. Members from the DC-Baltimore chapter of Pride at Work, AFL-CIO, will be walking with us as well.
The Capital Pride Parade attracts over 150,000 spectators annually and includes more than 170 contingents-floats, vehicles, walkers, entertainment and much more. This is an unmatched opportunity for AFGE to celebrate our diversity and reach out to the LGBT community to inform them of the benefits of belonging to a union. We will also participate in the festival on Sunday.
The federation's advocacy for workplace rights runs deep. AFGE takes seriously the responsibility to help provide good government services while ensuring that government workers are treated fairly and with dignity. The union supports a meaningful transformation of the federal workplace to improve the way services and benefits are delivered to the American public. Learn how AFGE has been creating more inclusive workplaces for LGBT government workers.
Taking Part in AFGE PRIDE doesn't have to stop after the parade and festival are over. As a part of your AFGE membership, federal and DC government employees can take part in the special AFGE Pride Program.
