AFGE was once again a proud sponsor in the 2018 Capital Pride Celebration in Washington D.C.
The Capital Pride Parade attracts over 150,000 spectators every year, many of which are AFGE members working in the D.C. and federal governments. We had AFGE staff, members and officers join us in the parade along with more than 170 contingents-floats, vehicles, and walkers.
As part of AFGE's sponsorship, we also had premier placement in this year's annual festival. Although the forecast was grim, AFGE showed up and showed out once again!
The 2018 theme, "Elements of Us", was fitting as we continue to respect what makes all of our members unique but also recognize our common cause and fights as workers in this country.
"Thus, collectively through Pride we are able to create a powerful foundation that will help us advance the cause of human dignity, equal rights, and a world free from discrimination and prejudice", says Capital Pride Alliance.”
AFGE has participated in the festival since 2015. We were the first union in the parade, and this year, we were the only union participating in the event. Federal employees expressed appreciation for AFGE’s presence at the festival as a show of support for people of all backgrounds.

Efforts to overturn President Trump’s pay freeze and provide all federal employees with a cost-of-living increase next year are building steam on Capitol Hill ahead of crucial budget negotiations set to resume after the midterm elections in November.
AFGE and other unions who challenged the Trump administration’s illegal mass firing of federal workers during the 2025 government shutdown have reached a settlement agreement in the case that formally ends the termination effort.
AFGE is urging lawmakers to support new bipartisan legislation that is needed to address persistent shortages of federal workers who are critical to ensuring the safety of our nation’s railroads.
