Hearing Care Program

According to the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, approximately 28.8 million adults in the United States could benefit from wearing hearing aids.

But studies show that hearing health care is often expensive and underutilized by many of the people who need it. Of the 28.8 million Americans (age 20-69) who could benefit from wearing hearing aids, fewer than 16 percent have ever used them. Of those age 70 and older who could benefit from wearing hearing aids, fewer than 30 percent have ever used them leading to .

Not addressing or postponing this essential healthcare need can negatively impact a number of health issues related to hearing loss, including:

  • Cognitive decline, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease: mild to moderate untreated hearing loss is linked to cognitive decline and may be an early indicator for Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Depression: people with untreated hearing loss are twice as likely to be depressed than those who have normal hearing or those who wear hearing devices.
  • People with untreated hearing loss have been shown to incur 46% higher healthcare costs over a 10 year period
