WASHINGTON – Leaders from the American Federation of Government Employees will be traveling to Germany next week to meet with federal employees working at Ramstein Air Base and surrounding military bases.
AFGE National Secretary-Treasurer Eric Bunn Sr., AFGE National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices Kendrick Roberson, and AFGE District 14 National Vice President Ottis Johnson Jr. will be holding on-site trainings and meetings to discuss worker rights and protections for federal employees located overseas.
In March 2023, AFGE launched a new local under District 14 to cover more than 10,000 federal employees working for U.S. agencies in Europe who currently lack a collective voice at work. Most of these employees work for the Defense Department at military hospitals, child care centers, commissaries and exchanges, as firefighters, and in combat support and logistics.
“Federal employees supporting our warfighters and government operations overseas have the same rights and protections as federal employees working stateside, but they also have challenges and opportunities that are unique to them,” Johnson said. “This is an opportunity for those employees to meet with us face to face, share their concerns, and learn what AFGE is doing to help improve their working conditions on the ground.”
