D.c. Labor Management Plan Renamed for Late AFGE Vp Dwight Bowman
(WASHINGTON)Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray on February 13 announced that the District of Columbia Labor Management Partnership Council (DCLMPC) Strategic Plan would be renamed in honor of the late Dwight Bowman, formerly national vice president for the 14th District of the American Federation of Government Employees. The plan officially now will be the Dwight R. Bowman D.C. LMPC Strategic Plan.
The announcement was made during a DCLMPC meeting, which was attended by city agency heads and numerous union leaders. In attendance were AFGE National President J. David Cox Sr., AFGE National Secretary-Treasurer Eugene Hudson Jr., and Eric Bunn, president of AFGE Local 2725, which covers several D.C. government agencies.
It is a great testament to the hard work and dedication of our late brother, Dwight Bowman, for the DCLMPC plan to be named after him, Cox said. Before his passing, Dwight was active in encouraging the mayor to build a lasting relationship with the labor community. He would be pleased with this plan and AFGE is poised to continue his good work.
Bowman passed away unexpectedly on January 16. At the time, he was serving his third term as national vice president of AFGEs District 14, which covers Washington, D.C., Montgomery and Prince Georges counties in Maryland, and Arlington and Fairfax counties and the City of Alexandria in Virginia. In addition, he most recently sat on the Board of the Maryland State and District of Columbia AFL-CIO, the Metropolitan Washington Central Labor Council, and the Partnership Council for the District of Columbia.
