WASHINGTON –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced it is endorsing Maryland Gov. Wes Moore for reelection, as well as a slate of incumbents for reelection to their seats representing Maryland in the U.S. House. The statewide primary is June 23, and the general election is Nov. 3.
AFGE is endorsing Wes Moore for reelection because of his leadership and responsiveness to issues facing federal workers and their families during a tumultuous time.
“Governor Moore has stepped up at a time when federal employees have faced uncertainty and displacement,” AFGE District 14 National Vice President Ottis Johnson Jr. said. “He understands that Maryland is home to a large federal workforce, and when those workers are impacted, our communities and our economy feel it. His leadership has reflected a clear commitment to supporting working families during those challenges.”
Moore’s leadership reflects a clear understanding of the connection between federal service and Maryland’s economic stability, particularly in a state where thousands of families rely on federal employment.
“Maryland’s economy is deeply connected to its federal workforce,” AFGE District 4 National Vice President Christine Surrette said. “When federal employees are affected, it has a ripple effect across the state. Governor Moore has recognized that connection and has worked to support both workers and the broader economic stability of our communities.”
In addition to endorsing Maryland’s governor for reelection, AFGE also proudly endorses the following members of Maryland’s federal delegation for reelection to their seats in the U.S. House: Reps. Johnny Olszewski (2nd District), Sarah Elfreth (3rd District), Glenn Ivey (4th District), April McClain Delaney (6th District), Kweisi Mfume (7th District), and Jamie Raskin (8th District).
These members of Congress have consistently stood with AFGE and the federal workforce—fighting to protect pay, benefits, and workplace rights, and to support the critical services that federal employees provide to the American people every day.
“Maryland’s federal delegation has been a steadfast ally to AFGE members and the entire federal workforce,” Johnson said. “They understand the importance of protecting federal employees’ rights, ensuring fair pay, and strengthening the services our members provide every day.”
These leaders have demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting federal employees, supporting collective bargaining rights, and ensuring the federal government continues to serve the public effectively.
“These members of Congress have consistently fought for working families and the federal workforce,” Surrette said. “Their leadership and commitment to workers’ rights makes a meaningful difference across Maryland and beyond.”
AFGE previously endorsed Adrian Boafo for election to the U.S. House representing Maryland’s 5th Congressional District in the 2026 elections.
More than 225,000 federal employees live in Maryland – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 4 represents nearly 43,000 employees in Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, while District 14 represents nearly 70,000 workers in the Washington metropolitan area and Europe.
