INDIANAPOLIS –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Brian Poindexter for election to the U.S. House representing Ohio’s Seventh Congressional District in the 2026 elections. The general election is Nov. 3.
Poindexter is an iron worker and has been a member of Ironworkers Local 17 in Cleveland since 2007. He was elected to the Brook Park City Council in 2007 and is currently serving his fifth term on the council, where he has been a steadfast advocate for working families. He supports our public schools and federal postal system and opposes so-called “right to work” laws and school choice vouchers.
“Congress needs more union members to be the voice for working people. Along with hard work, Brian Poindexter was able to join the middle class because of unions. He wants that same opportunity for everyone and will continue to fight for workers’ rights in Congress,” AFGE District 6 National Vice President Arnold Scott said. “Brian stood with AFGE long before he decided to run for Congress. He is the clear champion for labor in this race, earning our full AFGE endorsement.”
More than 82,000 federal workers live in Ohio, and more than 4,700 live in the 7th Congressional District – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents nearly 47,000 federal employees in District 6, which includes Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.
