BRIDGETON, N.J. – The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Rep. Chris Pappas for election to the U.S. Senate representing New Hampshire in the 2026 election.
Since first being elected to the House of Representatives in 2018, Pappas has earned a reputation as a pragmatic problem solver who puts people first and never backs down from a fight. He has promoted tax cuts for working families and small businesses, fought predatory companies that target veterans and harm our environment, and stood up to the pharmaceutical industry to lower drug costs.
A descendant of Greek immigrants, Pappas ran his family’s century-old restaurant in Manchester and served three terms on the New Hampshire Executive Council before being elected to Congress – where he made history as the first openly gay member of Congress elected from the state.
During his time in Congress, Pappas has earned a perfect 100% voting record on AFGE issues every single year. He has consistently voted to raise the pay of federal employees, protect collective bargaining rights for officers at the Transportation Security Administration, bolster the civilian workforce at the Department of Defense, secure a fair retirement for federal law enforcement officers, and care for our veterans by fully funding the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Chris Pappas has been a tireless advocate for federal employees and all working people during his time in Congress, and AFGE is proud to endorse him to be the next U.S. Senator from the great state of New Hampshire,” said AFGE District 2 National Vice President David Gonzalez.
More than 5,200 federal employees live in New Hampshire – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.
AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. AFGE represents nearly 53,000 federal employees in District 2, which covers Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
