AFGE beat our organizing goal once again in November!
Last month saw 3,730 federal and D.C. government employees joining AFGE, eager to be a part of our movement for better pay, increased benefits, retirement security, and voice on the job.
Our union continued to grow with a net gain of 491. All but two districts saw growth with District 10 having the highest net gain of 159 members.
AFGE has beaten our goal of organizing 3,500 new members per month every month this year except for January and was above 4,000 seven out of 11 months.
“From May 2018 through the pandemic, we lost some 2,000 members a month, and now we are growing,” said AFGE Membership and Organization Director David Cann. “The growth is sustained, consistent and spread through the districts. We are on the road to continued success.”
A series of agency-driven reorganizations have driven much of the union’s organizing work, including the enormous Defense Health Agency (DHA) realignment. As many as 80,000 civilian and military employees working on medical and research matters are transferring to DHA from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. AFGE currently represents more than half of those employees, while the rest are either unrepresented or represented by other smaller unions.
