Government auditors, independent watchdogs and Pentagon leaders agree: the Defense Department spends way too much on federal contractors.
In 2014 alone, service contractors charged taxpayers at least $147 billion – all for work that federal employees can do for two to three times less.
Defense doesn’t even know how many contractors are on the government’s dime. That’s why many people call it the shadow workforce.
Money wasted on pricey contractors could create good public service jobs at bases and installations across the country. These jobs would help employ our veterans, keep America safe, and save a ton of taxpayer dollars.
