May is Jewish-American Heritage Month. On Wednesday AFGE took this opportunity to celebrate with an educational program that included a short talk by Rabbi Daniel Zemel of Temple Micah in Washington, D.C., Jewish food, and a video featuring the prominent role of Jewish Americans in the Civil Rights movement. For example, most of the white people who participated in a sit in at a white-only lunch counter in solidarity with the courageous black men were Jewish Americans. More than half of the young people who participated in the Mississippi Freedom Summer in 1964 were also Jewish Americans.
You can watch this awesome documentary here beginning at the 40:20 minute mark.
