In honor of Women’s History Month, AFGE wants to deeply thank the women of our union and recognize them for their great contributions and for helping us grow throughout the years.
As we continue our shared fight for respect, equity and fairness in the workplace, we must continually reflect on work that still needs to be done to ensure that women have equal access and opportunity.
On average, women represented by unions earn 30% more per week according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research ‘Status of Women in the States’ project.
Under AFGE’s Women and Fair Practices Department, our union continues to advocate for equal treatment and pay for all. But there is still more work ahead. In the years to come, equality will continue to be an issue as women’s wages lag behind men and workplace harassment is commonplace. We must continue to fight for the next generation and lift our sisters in our ongoing fight.
AFGE is proud to have women as a cornerstone of our union. As Women’s History Month continues, we ask all to reflect on the power of women in their lives, their workplaces and communities. Be sure to stand with us in our fight as we uplift women everywhere.
