AFGE is deeply proud of what we did to help elect pro-worker candidates across the country. We did everything in our power, and early data showed that our member engagement program made an impact and tremendously contributed to the overall labor efforts. The majority of AFGE endorsed candidates won their elections across the country, and AFGE's internal infrastructure stands as robust as ever — ready for the fights ahead.
Here are some of the highlights of our accomplishments this election season:
- Initial returns indicate that AFGE turned out more than 72% for Harris. This is a 15% better performance than union members nationally in this election and a nearly 25% better performance than the general public.
- A number of key House races had a very narrow margin of victory. AFGE votes definitely made a decisive difference in some of these key races. As of right now, for example, MD-06 is within a 300-vote margin — and AFGE knocked on well over 1,000 doors in that one district.
- AFGE’s engagement program energized members and led to the largest number of AFGE volunteers in 16 years. We mobilized 658 volunteers who completed nearly 3,400 shifts. This is a 68% larger program than the union’s 2022 effort and a 114% larger program than the union's 2020 effort.
- AFGE represents only 2% of the AFL-CIO membership, yet accounted for 6.3% of AFL-CIO volunteers.
- AFGE released over 80 staff and activists into the AFL-CIO Labor-to-Labor program this year, making it one of our largest release programs ever. AFGE was one of the only unions that had release staff deployed in every single AFL-CIO target state.
“I couldn't be prouder of what we accomplished. The scale of this program has not been seen at AFGE in nearly two decades, and we are only getting started,” said AFGE Political Director Kevin Cooper.
