No one in America should go to bed hungry. And so AFGE volunteers braved the summer heat to help distribute food to hundreds of people at a capital area food bank this week. They were able to help 164 families, or 653 people, to put food on their tables. These people include 255 children, 117 senior citizens, and eight veterans. Each family was offered fresh fruit, vegetables, and non-perishables items such as cereal and canned goods.
“The donated goods have benefitted my family,” said a customer. “I appreciate how many people are willing to help us.”
AFGE applauds all the volunteers who showed up for a good cause and helped put a smile on the faces of our fellow Americans. AFGE volunteers also have participated in previous food distributions.
