Federal employees represented by AFGE at national parks, monuments, battlefields, historical sites, scenic rivers and trails in seven states will soon be covered under one strong master collective bargaining agreement after AFGE won a petition to consolidate units in the Northeast Region.
The petition win is significant as the collective numbers will give the union more strength during negotiations with the agency and will result in stronger contracts as opposed to locals negotiating an agreement on their own.
“There are other benefits as well, such as being able to more efficiently and effectively address Region-wide issues,” said Julia Turner, an AFGE attorney who helped the locals with the petition. “This also puts us in a better position to organize the remaining unorganized units in the Region.”
The bargaining units to be consolidated are assigned to Locals 3789 (Massachusetts), 3432 (New York/New Jersey), 2058 (Pennsylvania), 3034 (Pennsylvania), 1647 (Pennsylvania), 3145 (Pennsylvania), and 407 (Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland).
The agency has until September 29 to appeal this decision to the Federal Labor Relations Authority. Congratulations to the Northeast Region Locals. This has truly been a team effort!
