From electing new officers to taking care of your guests, here’s the information you need to know:
Navigation
Convention activities will be located at both Paris Las Vegas and Bally’s Las Vegas, which are linked by an underground walkway. Paris will be home to delegate check-in, exhibits, the General Session, national officer elections, and some district and council meetings. Bally’s will host our delegate luncheons, new delegate trainings, some district and council meetings, and offices for our national officers. Log-on to the Convention App for maps and a full schedule.
Nominations
As per the AFGE constitution, all nominations for national office must be made in writing, stating the name of the candidate and the office for which she or he is nominated, and must be signed by the delegate making the nomination. Nominations must be given to the Election Committee or to Election Committee Chair NVP Dorothy James. Committee members will receive nominations from 1-4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, in Versailles 1.
Elections
The election of national officers will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 7:30-11:30 a.m. in the Versailles Ballroom. Election results will be posted outside the election area and throughout the convention area Wednesday afternoon. Should any runoff be required, it will be held Wednesday afternoon. The time for the runoff voting will be posted.
Orientation for New Delegates
Two orientation sessions will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, for delegates and alternate delegates who have never attended a Convention. Participants will review the week’s activities, how business is conducted, how to be recognized on the floor, and the rules governing debate and voting. The session is not mandatory, but attendance is encouraged. Session 1 is 1-3 p.m. and Session 2 is 4-6 p.m., both in Las Vegas 4-6.
Delegate Luncheons
Lunch will be served in the Grand Ballroom following the end of morning general sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Lunch is not open to guests; delegate or alternate badges required.
Resolutions Workshops
Delegates will meet Tuesday afternoon and all-day Wednesday to discuss proposed resolutions to the AFGE Constitution and resolutions affecting AFGE operations. The workshops run from 1-6 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The Constitution & Internal Policy workshop meets in the Paris Ballroom, while the workshop covering Legislative, Political, Union Building, Communications, and Worksite Representation meets in Bally’s Event Center.
Guest Badges
Guest badges must be obtained from the Women’s & Fair Practices office, located in Skyview 1. Guests must be sponsored by a delegate, who must appear with the guest in order to receive a badge. There is limited seating for guests during the convention general session, and lunch sessions are not open to guests.
Women’s Breakfast
The Women’s and Fair Practices Department is hosting a ticketed breakfast program from 7-8:30 a.m. Thursday in Champagne Ballroom that you won’t want to miss. The timely topic is, “Changing the Things I Cannot Accept.” Tickets cost $80 each and must be purchased in advance from WFP.
