Pres. Cox Receives Workers Defense League Award

AFGE National President J. David Cox Sr. was honored during the 80th Anniversary Dinner of the Workers Defense League on May 17, 2016. He received the David. L. Clendenin Award for Distinguished Service to Labor's Rights.

Since 1936, the Workers Defense League has championed the union cause and assisted workers in need. Cofounded by David L. Clendenin, the League counsels and assists thousands of individual workers with unemployment insurance claims and other rights. On average, the Workers Defense League receives an average of 250 calls a week from people with workplace problems and represents approximately 350 claimants per year in hearings.

Bill Granfield, President of Local 100, Unite Here, AFL-CIO and Mike Hellstrom, Business Manager / Secretary Treasurer of Local 108, Laborers International Union of North American, AFL-CIO were also honored during the celebration.
