Every day, correctional workers walk into work and put their lives on the line to protect their communities.
They know that they will be locked up with the worst criminals in the country. They know that they will have very little to keep themselves safe. And yet, they still go to work because you know our country is counting on you.
That's why AFGE is committed to standing up for the correctional workers in the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), working hard to get them a good paycheck, fair retirement benefits and safer working conditions.
In the last year alone AFGE has eliminated the 10% penalty on early withdrawals from correctional workers' Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) accounts for retirement, and expanded the pepper spray pilot program to all high and medium security facilities, so that workers can defend themselves.
But there is much more work to be done, and we need your help to do it. Our federal prisons are dangerously overcrowded and understaffed, making them dangerous for both staff and inmates.
Our correctional workers protect our communities so others can know peace. It is our duty to make sure their workplaces are safe. Want to see more about AFGE’s accomplishments? Visit afge.org and click on the “Safe Prisons Project” page to view a new video.
