Registration is open for online orientation webinar for new AFGE local officers.
This one-day webinar is designed for new local union leaders who need a basic overview of their duties and responsibilities as local union officers. It will be presented by Education Specialist Shara Smith and Education Deputy Director Julie Mendez-de Leon.
The webinar will cover subjects such as legal duties under the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act and Civil Service Reform Act, how the AFGE Constitution defines local officer roles and responsibilities, fiduciary duties of all union officers, running local elections and local meetings, and basic strategic planning best practices for a “strong and effective” local union.
The June classes will be offered as pilot classes and are therefore free of charge. Seats will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
