The eighth episode of AFGE’s new series, The Activist, highlighting our union members who have stepped up to help make a difference in the lives of their colleagues and our government.
Stephanie Perkins is a mediator with the EEOC and has been an AFGE member since 1994, currently serving as president of Local 3504 based in Chicago.
Growing up in Detroit, her family members were auto factory workers and heavily involved with the United Auto Workers, their union. She credits her strong union background as inspiring her to become a member of AFGE.
“I just love the camaraderie, the unity, and the messaging. I loved it. I was just a kid, and I loved it and still believe in it. I don’t think I ever will stop believing in it,” Stephanie said.
Listen to Stephanie talk about how her work at the EEOC and her membership with AFGE help her local community:
President Trump issued an executive order last week reclassifying about 8,000 non-partisan federal jobs into a new excepted service category called Schedule Policy/Career.
AFGE local leaders gathered at district caucuses across the country in May to elect the federation’s 12 national vice presidents, along with representatives to serve on AFGE’s National Human Rights Committee.
