Hire federal employees, the cheapest of all the three workforces, pointed out AFGE in a letter to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain, whose office will soon consider an authorization bill for the Defense Department.
Hiring federal employees is one of the three common sense rules AFGE laid out as a suggestion to Congress’s own efforts to rationalize the department’s workforce management policies. The others are: DoD’s workforce should be managed by budgets and workloads – not arbitrary personnel caps and hiring freezes; and DoD should have a better grasp of the scope of its service contracts in order to make better budget and personnel decisions.
“There is no question that the department could significantly improve its workforce management policy. Similarly, there is no question that this Congress could play an important role in rationalize that policy,” said AFGE.
