Don Drewett

National Legislative Coordinator

Don’s work requires constant advocacy and routine collaboration between the AFGE Federation and National Executive Committee on legislative affairs.  His work puts him in direct contact with key political figures on Capitol Hill and other stakeholders.  Don is a graduate of Culinary Institute of America and at age 19, he opened his first restaurant.  In 1991, he was hired as a Cook Supervisor in Otisville, NY and has worked for the Bureau for 26 years.

Don became a member of Local 3860 and went on to hold positions of increasing responsibilities on Executive Committee in the Local.  He has served as Secretary, Executive Vice President and Local President.  Don has also been a local Legislative Coordinator and also a Regional Legislative Coordinator in the Council.  In 2015, the National President appointed him to his current position as National Legislative Coordinator.

In 2017, Don received the Council’s most coveted honor, a Basil McDavitt Award for his grassroots work.  He enjoys working alongside fallen officers’ families.  In his tenure, the Council has seen most of its accomplishments realized.  In 2015 and 2016, the Congress passed “The Defending Public Safety Employees’ Retirement Act,” which officially eliminated IRS 10% TSP Tax Penalty for federal law enforcement and firefighters and in 2016, the Eric Williams Correctional Officer Protection Act, provides OC Pepper Spray to employees in BOP.  Don service to the Council has been with distinction. He remains a very vibrant and relevant political figure on the Council’s Legislative Team in Washington, DC.
