The AFGE Law Enforcement Steering Committee is proud to announce Veterans Affairs Police Sergeant Clyde Hall as a recipient of the 2020 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.
On Sunday March 8, 2020, Sergeant Hall and other members of his patrol were dispatched to respond to a vehicle partially submerged in a lake. Hall and a partner dropped their police duty gear, and swam to rescue a floating victim. Hall and his partner got the victim out of the water and ensured he was okay and that there were no other victims. They were later able to assist the paramedics so that the victim could receive emergency care. It was later determined that the actions of the victim was a suicide attempt. Through the efforts of Sergeant Hall and his patrol, the Veteran’s suicide attempt was averted and he was able to receive follow-on care. The bravery and swift responses of Sergeant Hall and his patrol reflect great credit on his station, agency and the law enforcement community. As an AFGE member, the Law Enforcement Steering Committee wanted to recognize Sergeant Hall as AFGE 2020 Officer of the Year.
We plan to present Sergeant Hall with the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award at the Legislative Conference on Tuesday evening. If you are attending, feel free to join us in congratulating Clyde!
