We are introducing an important new program in partnership with Union Plus which is a bachelor’s degree completion program, which supplements the Union Plus Free College associate degree program. This program will offer AFGE and their families an accessible, low-cost and convenient opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree program. The program is available to members and retirees, plus their spouses, children and grandchildren.
The Union Plus Free College program eliminates cost as a hurdle preventing members from taking the next step in their education and career advancement. Combined with the free associate degree program, the Bachelor’s Degree Completion program means members can earn a four-year bachelor’s degree for $9,000 or less.
Interested students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and use any federal or state grants to pay the tuition. They must also use any employer or union sponsored tuition assistance.
A ‘Success Grant’ will be applied toward tuition, fees and books so that the most a student will pay in annual out-of- pocket costs is $4,500. For many individuals, depending on the federal grants available to them, the out-of-pocket cost will be significantly less and for some, even zero. E-textbooks and fees are included in the out-of-pocket maximum. The out-of-pocket cost is no more than $4,000 for students who reside in Ohio
This program offers the Bachelor’s Degree Completion program with academic partner Central State University (CSU). CSU, established in 1887, is an accredited non-profit public institution located in Wilburforce, Ohio.
Students can enroll in the online bachelor’s degree program from anywhere in the country. CSU is “transfer-friendly” and accepts as many previous credits as possible from students, for no charge. Because CSU is public and regionally accredited, their credits generally transfer to other institutions.
Credits can transfer to other schools and advising and tutoring is available to support students. Students can attend full-time or part-time and can take as little as 1 class per term.
The program offers two bachelor’s degree programs: Business Administration Degree and a Teacher Education Degree.
