AFGE Applauds House Action to Repeal Retirement Tax

Categories: News & Publications, Press Release, D.C. Government

"In this time of budget surplus, federal employees should not have to continue to shoulder this unfair financial burden.

"While Congress is debating tax relief for the rest of America, they continue to tax federal employees through their pensions, which neither gives federal employees a better pension or improves the terms of their pensions. No other segment of America was singled out to balance the budget the way federal employees have been.

"This never-fair-and-now-completely-unnecessary retirement tax on federal employees should be repealed and we urge the full House to do just that."

The American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, is the largest union for government employees, representing 600,000 federal workers in the United States and overseas, as well as employees of the District of Columbia.
